COMPOSITION PGH
Stone is made from sand, cement, additives, and water. Cast from moulds created using actual stone pieces, PGH Stone displays the same textures, colours and patterns found in real stone masonry. Available in a selection of natural-looking stone finishes and formats, there will be a product to suit many different project needs.
ESTIMATING STONE REQUIRED
To determine the amount of PGH Stone Flat pieces needed, measure the area to be covered. Measure the length and height to arrive at the gross m2 of flat stone needed [length (m) x height (m)]. Subtract m2 for corners (if applicable), windows, doors, or other openings. To determine the amount of corner pieces needed, measure the outer vertical edge in linear metres. Corners occupy approx. 0.2m2 of wall space per linear metre of product, so this number can be subtracted from the requirement for Flat pieces. Note: PGH Stone is sold in cartons containing 0.42 – 0.60m2 of loose pieces (Flats) and cartons containing 1.0 – 1.2Lm of loose pieces (Corners). Individual stone pieces within boxes may vary depending on the selected profile, so care to review the pieces available prior to installation is recommended.
APPLICATION
Utilising PGH Stone in a walling application requires bonding to a solid substrate such as a concrete or masonry wall. PGH Stone is not suitable to stand on its own, or on a non-structural element such as plasterboard. For height and wind load limit on wall applications, consult adhesive manufacturers for more information. PGH highly recommends that all standards and specifications be independently checked by the project designer(s), as well as the sealant and adhesive manufacturers for recommendations to suit the specific requirements of each project.

Corner installation
If your application requires corner pieces, start by installing a corner piece first, followed by the adjoining flat pieces. Note that the corner pieces may experience greater wind load. It is recommended that corners be strengthened through continuous metal mesh wrap with min. 450mm at outside and inside corners, fastened at a framing member. Where lapping of expanded metal mesh is required, follow the manufacturer`s instructions for the minimum lapping length.
Substrate requirement
PGH recommends that wall construction be in accordance with the relevant Australian and industry standards when preparing a surface for stone cladding. The contractor must examine substrates and advise the general contractor and architect of any existing conditions or surface contamination which will require correction before work commences. Before starting, substrates must comply with maximum allowable deflection criteria as called for by Australian industry standards or the applicable local building code. Consult the adhesive manufacturer for the appropriate substrate surface treatment.
Fire safety
Concrete is listed as a non-combustible material under the National Construction Code. Consult the adhesive manufacturer for a suitable product if you intend to use PGH Stone in a fire-resistant area such as a fireplace.
Other precautions
To reduce the risk of falling from height, it is recommended to install PGH Stone no greater than 2 storeys high. Contact the adhesive manufacturer for further guidance.
Cutting stone may generate silica dust. It is recommended that appropriate PPE be worn, and dust-reducing cutting methods (i.e. wet saw) are employed.
